Gold

About

Gold historically has been our most precious metal and it is the colour of Olympic victory. It also has other fascinating associations. Artspace Loughborough artists were given a free rein to interpret ‘Gold' in their own way and have produced an exciting exhibition of new work exploring gold as colour and light but also its meanings in myth, culture, money and business. Artspace Loughborough was founded in 1997 by graduate artists, mostly from Loughborough College of Art and Design, to exhibit contemporary art and as an artists' network. There are currently 16 artists — painters, sculptors, printmakers, mixed media artists — who all live or work in the Charnwood area. They have received many awards. Artists exhibit locally and nationally as a group and as individuals. Several members also teach locally. In 2005, Artspace exhibited in Venice at the same time as the prestigious Venice Biennale as part of a cultural exchange with a similar Italian artists' group.
