James Usher - Beyond the Humber Bridge

Winner of the 20-21 Open Exhibition in 2009, James Usher was brought up near Hull and now lives in South Ferriby on the south bank of the Humber Estuary. The self-taught artist has been painting for over 45 years and now works professionally, creating his distinctive and humorous portraits and scenes of working-class Humber life. Subjects include dapper young men and dolled-up ladies out on the town, along with the staff and customers of local public houses and takeaways and a few recognisable local landmarks from the Humber area.
