About

The symposium will discuss the themes emerging out of Inbetween Time Festival's international programme of work, What Next for The Body, which aims to explore the conditions and outcomes of the contemporary body breaking down. The symposium will allow delegates and artists time and space to reflect on the work presented during the festival and its wider context. The morning session will place artists together with curators and social researchers to explore the idea of death as a visceral presence in the experience of the living. The afternoon will locate artists and scientists together to reveal the body in flux, as an evolving organism in the face of emerging scientific discovery and medical ethics. Speakers include the artists Kira O'Reilly, Jennifer Willet, Jordan McKenzie, and Richard Gregory the Artistic Director of Quarantine. Also in attendance will be Dr. John Troyer, Centre for Death and Society, University of Bath; Dr. Muireann Quigley, Lecturer in Bioethics, The University of Manchester; and Dr Paul Martin, University of Bristol, School of Biochemistry. Finally we will be joined by Lois Keiden from the Live Art Development Agency and Martin Hargreaves, the Editor of Dance Theatre Journal.
