About
Art historical theory privileges the position of the Viewer over the Viewed by imbuing "the Gaze" with un-contested power. But what happens when the Viewed takes control, subverts this theoretical construct and demands scrutiny?
Georgie M'Glug investigates this power struggle as it manifests itself in private relationships, tracing the trajectory of intimacy from its innocent inception to its often violent conclusion. Her images capture both the act of defining and redefining ones Self before the desirous Gaze of the Other, as well as the perturbing consequences that result when this intrinsic drive to be watched becomes unhinged from the reliance on external scrutiny.
