About

Jonathan Cooper Park Walk Gallery is pleased to announce ‘Animal Magic,' a new exhibition of large-scale animal paintings by Michael J. Austin, on show at this year's Art London fair. English bulls, chickens and horses heads are all depicted, sourced from the surrounding villages near the artist's home in Devon. Austin is known for his bold and expressive figurative style, capturing the dynamism and machismo of the animals he depicts. He continues to paint using a limited palette of only four colours (magenta, Ultra marine, yellow and white) that allows him to paint quickly, with a fluid ‘wet in wet' technique. His broad expressive strokes are achieved using flat brushes and demonstrate the early influences of Frans Hals, Velazquez and John Singer Sargent.
