About

Picturing Men is a symposium-styled study day aimed at anyone with an interest in fashion imagery, publishing, cultural and media studies. Consider and discuss the key ideas and influences that have shaped the image of men in publishing and fashion photography today. Featuring key figures from both the academic world and the image-making industry, the day will address issues raised in the When You're a Boy: Men's Fashion Styled by Simon Foxton exhibition at The Photographers' Gallery (17 July—04 October 2009). These include: how cultural and historical shifts influence the representation of men; whether we look at images of men/boys in the same way we do those of women/girls; how creative interactions between stylists, fashion photographers and publishers shape the images they publish, as well as the way the individual tastes and collecting activities of key industry figures influence our consumption of fashion imagery. Speakers include: Keynote Speaker Vince Aletti, Shaun Cole, Jason Evans, Prof Penny Martin, Dr Eugenie Shinkle and Stephen Todd. Location: The Rootstein Hopkins Space London College of Fashion 20 John Prince's St, W1G 0BJ Nearest tube: Oxford Circus To book tickets call the Information Desk on +44 (0)845 262 1618
