Taking inspiration from the Journal exhibition and from a piece of research into young Londoners' relationship with arts and culture, this is a two-part workshop for 16-25 year olds reflecting on young people's relationship with the city and exploring practical solutions to help them connect with its cultural scene.

Creative workshop: 11am - 1pm
Led by artist Harold Offeh, this creative workshop addresses our relationship with places and our everyday journeys in the city. Using different technologies, individuals will reflect on the multiple spaces we inhabit; our selves, our bodies and our communities.

Research workshop: 2pm - 5pm
Starting from the findings of 'My Culture, My London', a piece of research into young Londoners’ engagement in arts and culture, the purpose of this workshop is to shape practical ways through which young people can be encouraged to access and engage with the city’s cultural scene, from museums, galleries and libraries through to theatre, music, film, street arts and much more.

'My Culture, My London' is a piece of research commissioned by A New Direction, London’s leading organisation in cultural education. It follows the lives of 20 young Londoners over the course of two weeks, looking at how, when and why they choose to take part in cultural activities. It seeks to delve deeper into their motivations to take part and explore barriers beyond the rational ones of ‘time’, ‘money’ and ‘distance’. It looks at young people’s sense of identity and how this influences their decision to engage in arts and culture. The project was conducted by research agency Acacia Avenue who will also be facilitating the afternoon session of the day.
