Artfordable Fair, Festive Christmas Edition
@ 13 The Gallery
Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th December, 2013
13 The Gallery is an eclectic art gallery, photography studio and fine art shop in Islington, London. The first Cuban-owned art gallery in Europe, we host fun and exciting, and truly affordable, art fairs every month.
The Artfordable Fair is a unique opportunity to meet artists from different parts from the world who live in the locality and in and around London. This time with many special additions for Christmas, the artists will present and speak about their work, discussing where they find their inspiration and how they go about transferring their inner vision onto the world to the smooth sounds of Jazz over a glass of mulled wine.
Guests will be taking on a personal journey as their own inner visions are explored and recorded, not to mention all the beautiful and varied works available.
UNIQUE HAND MADE JEWELLERY, all the way from Crete, ETCHINGS, PRINTS AND ILLUSTRATIONS, PAINTINGS AND PHOTOGRAPHY, CHRISTMAS DECORATIONS AND GIFTS, DRAMA WORKSHOPS, SMOOTH JAZZ AND MUCH MORE TO ENJOY OVER A VARIETY OF FESTIVE REFRESHMENTS. (N.B. Please see below for specific performance times).
We encourage artists to think about their price range so everyone can afford to buy art; quite a number of items start from a few pounds and are below £100, with the majority of pieces below £400 and only some more expensive works. Since the gallery takes no commission, this is a rare chance to buy directly from artists at their best prices.
December's featured artists include:
SOTIRIA TOGIA (http://www.sotiriatogia.com)
Sotiria was taught the principles of jewellery art by master goldsmiths. Through her research in ancient Greek jewellery techniques, she has developed her own expression through the creation of original handmade jewellery designed to the highest standard in her field. The essence of her design lies in pieces that truly become a part of those who wear them. Using technical expertise, Sotiria translates her inner thoughts into exquisite, handmade creations, characterized by fine metals and precious gemstone. Her work encompasses simple forms - artistic yet wearable shapes - unique pieces fitting to individual personalities and catering to every taste. She is living and working in Rethymno, Crete.
DENES MARIOTI (http://www.orioncontemporary.com/denes-maroti/)
Dénes’s pictures are made with various materials and techniques, ranging from emotive portraiture to graphic prints. Representation of the visual lies at the heart of his work, whilst the surrounding environment and the possibilities of choice provide inspiration in abundance. A Graphic Artist graduate from the Hungarian University of Fine Arts (2005), Dénes also works as a playback drawer with multiple playback theatre companies. These drawings portray the essence of personal stories through enactment illustrations, some of which are then transformed into lino- or paper-cuts. Born in Budapest, Hungary and currently living in London, England, Dénes has had several exhibitions in both cities.
EWA VEL KAVKA (www.artbykavka.com)
Ewa, or Kavka as she prefers to be known, is both an attentive Photographer and innovative in the Arts and Crafts. Drawing inspiration from recycled materials, each unique creation demonstrates her off-beat outlook on our everyday surroundings. A multi-disciplinary artist, Kavka makes jewellery, felt decorations, papier-mache sculptures, and various works combining decoupage with other mysterious techniques which remain her secret... A fan of vintage and eco: paper, wood, seeds, acorns, stones, and more, she sees every day as a challenge, to create something new.
TONY BERKMAN (http://www.entenarts.com)
Tony uses the process of painting itself to explore the colours, movement and atmosphere of urban living. Drawing from real-life events, observations and imagination, he combines craft with art in a captivating expression of the urban experience. A Fine Art graduate from the University of Middlesex (2012), Tony’s work has developed from reductive painting (applying multiple layers of single colours and during the drying process removing varying areas of some of these layers), to printmaking, ceramics and sculpture. Inspired by the limitless and ever-changing immediate environment, Tony transforms his visions into timeless pieces of beauty and significance.
PREMA RONNINGEN (http://visionandphotography.com)
Prema is a Photographer and Artist. She shoots portraits, live music, dance, events, landscapes, and the list goes on. “There are few limits on what I photograph; I am trying to freeze that special moment and show you that feeling,” which she does with great success. Emotive and enticing, Prema’s photographs offer the viewer a glimpse of the passion behind each moment, inviting them into the scene through visual and unique experience. “Visions come when Imaginations run free and Inspiration is all around” ... For Prema, everything is presented as a potential subject, dancing on the strings of life.
This Christmas, there will be a surprise event with the chance to tell your inner visions and see them mirrored through improvisational theatre and the visual arts.
