I work with digital aesthetics, analog media, and cultural codes exploring paradoxes and conflicts of human existence. Vitaly Tsarenkov, also known under an alias SY, was born in 1987 in Leningrad, USSR. In the early 2000s, the artist shows interest in graffiti culture and creates first pieces on the walls in his native city, subsequently shifting focus to studio work and exhibition activity. The artist works in different media: painting, sculpture, muralism, street art. His works, balancing on the verge of digital technology and analog artistic practices, often create a deceptive impression of computer illustrations rather than acrylic paintings crafted by hand. Artist's visual language has been influenced by the aesthetics of 8-bit console video games, early 3D computer animation, the Russian avant-garde, and also an engineering education, in particular descriptive geometry and technical drawing. Clear-cut straight lines, bright saturated colors, three-dimensional geometric forms, and maximally simplified images characterize the author's recognizable style. It's also worth mentioning the perfectionism and accuracy of his technique. On the content level, the artist explores paradoxes and conflicts of human existence, considering a man's interrelations with other people and the world around through mental, metaphysical, and social-political aspects. The range of tasks the author works with includes: creating and developing personal style, rethinking traditional media in the post-digital era, speculating on eternal questions of life along with reflecting current trends and shifts in modern society. Vitaly Tsarenkov is a participant of large publishing and international exhibition projects among which two editions of photo-almanac about Russian street art and the same name group exhibitions Wall Elements, the 2nd and 3rd street wave art biennale Artmossphere, a series of group exhibitions Collection #1, #2, #3 in Montresso* Art Space in Marrakesh. Artist's works held in private collections in Russia, France, and Morocco. Lives and works in St. Petersburg, Russia.
