Quin de la Mer is a San Francisco-based visual artist working at the intersection of spiritual abstraction, material alchemy, and ecological transformation. Their practice integrates oil painting and alternative photography to explore the deep entanglement between human and more-than-human worlds. Guided by intuition, dreams, and the spirits of place, Quin moves with elemental forces, spectral beings, and the agency of materials themselves. Their paintings use sustainably sourced pigments—such as limestone from Lindisfarne and wildfire ash—to evoke landscapes shaped by fire, ice, water, and time. In parallel, their photographic works involve cyanotypes exposed in natural environments, phytograms developed with plant chemistry, and experimental film processes shaped by chance and environmental interaction. These methods reveal unseen dimensions, inviting viewers into a contemplative space where absence becomes presence, and silence speaks. Quin’s work emerges from a lived cosmology grounded in ecological grief, mysticism, and posthuman relationality. Through attunement to subtle forces, they create images that act as thresholds—sites of transformation, memory, and co-becoming. Their work has been exhibited internationally and is part of an ongoing, practice-based inquiry into spectral presence, environmental loss, and the generative entanglement of art, spirit, and place.
