Hamish Macaulay is a London-based contemporary mark-maker whose work constantly features abstracted landscapes, seascapes or cityscapes. He is inspired by the horizon and how it is transformed by its situation or location. His spontaneous monotypes reflect the concentration of light on a darkened backdrop. His recent work often features textural elements and fine details created in ink or mixed media, including hand-sewn thread. “Immersion in the world of graphic design has had a significant effect on my understanding of form, space and balance, and the skills developed trigger my interest in producing the print work I currently focus on”. He is a member of ArtCan, a London based non-profit arts organisation that supports emerging and established artists.
