The body of Marc Badia’s work focuses on the hermeneutics of images in pictorial practice and installation. Bearing in mind that a painting is simultaneously a receptacle of an image and an object, he uses humour and mystery as tools of criticism (whilst still being sexy). Interested in anecdotes he seeks to create tangential connections between the history of pictorial tradition and the new paradigms that emerge from contemporary aesthetics. In this regard, anything goes, be it a meme, an image of a trap-queen or a slogan from a public campaign. Many of his images are recovered from the vast ocean of the internet to then be returned to the circuit in an ironically romantic way. He describes his paintings not as an act of resistance but rather as the groove of the bass in a funky tune.
