Lakner is one of the most versatile artists working today. A participant in documenta and the Venice Biennale, he switches as much between media-painting, drawing and sculpture, concept and film-as he does between styles. He works as realistically as he does gesturally abstractly, appropriating foreign signatures in large-scale panel paintings and creating painterly treated book objects. A central influence reflected in the various aspects of his art is Far Eastern culture. It leads to monumental photorealistic painting and to non-representational meditative drawings.
