Artist
Lauren Mason is a Midlands born and Brighton based Art Photographer studying in her final year of Photography at the University of Brighton. Working in arts education prior to her course at the University of Brighton, she has spent time in organising and facilitating Art, Photography and Design classes for young people in the widest sense of the practices. In her own work, Lauren is now interested in analogue photographic processes and where these can be used in combination with contemporary crossovers - hybridising Photography. Her work is often focussed around the borders between staged and documentary where the artist performs for her camera in an act of staging to document. Narratives centre on the autobiographical, where she uses self-portraiture to explore experiences and feelings from her past usually dealing with emotional subjects in her images. When the subject is not directly linked to the artists own emotions she attempts to aid the viewer in looking beyond the surface value of that which she is photographing. She informs the viewer that she is the Photographer, and this is photography, about photography. Past Exhibitions: Cinesthesia, Edward Street Gallery (University of Brighton) - January 2019.
