Klaus Berends

"From my point of view, ART isn’t any moral instance .

I don't want to teach, to inform or improve inert and tired people .

What I want is to bring poetry in drama, a new kind of poetry that unedited is, that can bring you in another space and time.

My philosophy take place in another dimension and I don’t mind in short about my followers.

I cannot give answers people’re waiting for, as in the world we’re living in, there isn’t any easy solution. Everybody should search and find it again and again."

Klaus Berends (born August 20, 1958 in Papenburg / Ems) is a German painter, sculptor and conceptual artist.

Life

Together with his parents lived Berends up to the age of five on a barge. After school and craft, he studied at the Hochschule für Künste Bremen. In 1986 he created as a thesis a stage design for Samuel Beckett's The Verwaiser. He lives and works in Fuerteventura and in Berlin.

Artistic activity

In its intangible, flat work used Berends colors of the earth, the sand and the most diverse, also found materials. The motive of the terrestrial magnetism plays a recurring role in his paintings as well as in his sculptures made of wire, optical glasses and alienated materials. Berends increasingly deals with topical issues such as environmental degradation, North-South divide and the problems associated with migration. Berends is best known for his large-scale project You are the salt of the earth at the Kunsthalle Dominican church Osnabrück (2004) and its installations "air reserves" on the occasion of his participation at the 3rd Biennial of the End of the World in Ushuaia (2011).
