Now based in Sheffield, South Yorkshire Kirsty E Smith was born and brought up in central Scotland. She originally trained as an accountant but found that she was a square peg in a round hole and after a varied career which included recruitment consultancy and selling artisan cheeses she returned to study art at Manchester Metropolitan University. Graduating in 2006 with a First Class Honours degree she has since exhibited in galleries across the UK and USA.

She was awarded Arts Council Funding for her shows Deep Space Moolog 2016- an immersive multi-media installation 20-21 Visual Arts Centre, Scunthorpe 2016 and TESTBED 1, Druid St, London 2017 and her touring solo show Close Encounters of a Frillip Moolog Kind 2009, (London and West Midlands). In 2012, she was the commissioned artist for the curated strand of The Wirksworth Art and Architecture Festival. In 2010 her two-person show, Blink UnBlink, was part of the Liverpool Biennial. She exhibited in the second Wells Art Contemporary exhibition (selected by Richard Wentworth, Bruce MacLean and Dan Hays) and her work is held in private collections in Switzerland and Spain.

Kirsty E Smith’s sculptures are fleshy, solid and theatrical and have the ability to engage viewers both physically and psychologically. These responses are partially developed through her surprising use of sumptuous textiles in conjunction with functional, reclaimed and recycled objects.

Her work is playful and striking and is drawn from a deep well of sensory memories.
