Judith Ellis' Birdflight series is her own development of the flag book and combines a love of drawing with her lifelong interest in the natural world. In her former life as a vet she often had to handle birds and was always moved by the lightness of their being. It is as though a bird has only just materialised and lives only partly in this world. Oystercatchers fly along a beach, and Swifts swoop over rooftops. Gannets fly fast fast over the sea and Redshanks call over the marshes.
