José Carvalho was born in Portugal and moved to London in 2006. In 2010, he moved to West London where he has established himself as a ceramic artist. José has developed his own glazes, with particular success using volcanic glazes, giving his work an organic texture. He also likes to explore colours in his work.
His ceramics have been exhibited in various London venues and galleries
including Hepsibah Gallery, Chelsea Physic Gardens and Otomys Contemporary gallery. José work has been used in projects with Conran and Partners, Colefax & Fowler, Molteni&C and bwt London. He has received high profile commissions including recent work for the prestigious Heckfield Place.
He has been influenced by many potters, including Lucie Rie, Seto Hiroshi, Bernard Leach and Hans Coper.
