Jiri Cernicky (born 1966, in Usti nad Labem) is a Czech visual artist, who is mostly recognized as the author of experimental and intermedia projects. This characteristics lead us to Cernicky´s art world where he often balances between different spaces and media. It is not entirely clear which kind of media is superior in his particular projects, but he mostly expresses himself with the video art, visual poetry, photography or installations. His work often refers to social and political engagement and is frequently associated with hitting the taboos or creating fictitious scenarios. These themes are ususally accompanied with irony, humor, emotions, social criticism and sometimes even future predictions. Cernicky´s academic background was defined at the University of Applied Arts in Prague as well as at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague where he graduated in 1997. Jiří Černický is a laureate of several art prizes comprising of Jindrich Chalupecky Award /1998/, Soros Award /1996/ and 48th October Salon Award in Belgrade /2007/ and was one of the finalists of Francis Alice Award /2012/.
