Artist
Emily Weaver is a multimedia visual artist working across sculpture, textiles and video art. She graduated from Duncan and Jordanstone College of Art & Design in 2022 with a degree in Fine Art and is currently based in Aberdeen. In her final year, ritual masks were an important motif within her artistic practice. Her work explored the history of the mask and its relationship with the face as a tool for expression. This has expanded into a greater interest in relics, ancient traditions and practices. Anthropological influences are prevalent across her work, informing themes of anonymity and the link between personal and cultural identity. Weaver is interested in the emergence of characters through the combination of visual exploration and research. She finds that every project organically develops a face, whether that's a lotus root, a vomiting bean, a devil or a fish.
