Eduardo Chillida (1924-2002) is one of the world's most important sculptors of the 20th century. In addition to his numerous internationally acclaimed sculptures, he created an extensive graphic oeuvre. The basic theme in his entire oeuvre is space, both physical space and spiritual and sensual space. Chillida is preoccupied with the contrast between matter and emptiness, whereby he also understands nothingness as space, the limited space enclosed by mass. The tension between solid material and its optical dissolution is also very visible in his graphic work. The works, all of which are in black and white, are characterised by their equally concrete and playful formal language and are also convincing because of their high aesthetic value.
