Deborah Grice is a graduate of the Royal College of Art, London. She paints raw land, emptiness and weather. Her paintings are metaphysical in nature - representing vastness and 'otherness'. She produces oils on canvas, limited edition prints and works on paper. Deborah studied at the Glasgow School of Art and The Royal College of Art, where she specialized in Reportage Illustration as she had ambitions of becoming a war artist. During her degree she developed her 'plein air' painting method in the wild landscapes of Scotland and it's Islands. Her recent move to North Lincolnshire has brought new ideas and influences to her work, due to her new home's close proximity to the Humber Estuary. Her many journeys over the Humber Bridge provide rich information that inform her palette, composition and the sense of longing that can be found in her work. “I use local natural objects to draw with and always produce my preliminary work en-plein-air. I embrace landscape that resonates with emptiness as well as finding inspiration by being amongst nature away from modern day life's distractions.” "My intention is to produce imagery that speaks of our innate and powerful relationship with nature and landscape which sadly, is becoming increasingly lost."
