Artist
Claire’s work begins with her deep concern for the natural world, often held in relationship to mapping her own journey through the landscape. Her work weaves together themes of self, reverie in solitude, and the unknown, referencing historical narratives and literary influences. Her recent paintings of the sea, allow intuition and repetition to guide meditative brushwork. The result is an immersive depiction of water, with bulging, complex waves that threaten to overwhelm. Her palette is loose and instinctive, with unexpected shifts and muted colours, that echo the silted, murky character of the North Sea, a place she loves. Claire’s work has been exhibited at the Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts, Cold Paradise in Scotland, the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, Norwich Castle Museum, with a solo show at Firstsite in 2023. She lives and works in Norfolk, UK.
