Fine Artist in Painting October 1995 – Present Chitra Ramanathan is a contemporary visual artist and art educator based in the United States. She is a celebrated contemporary Indian American visual artist known for her vibrant abstract paintings that radiate joy and therapeutic calm. Based in the United States, she combines vivid acrylics with layered mixed media, creating luminous, large-scale works with expansive energy. Her art draws inspiration from diverse life experiences, including her passion for gardening, the changing seasons in the U.S., and the colorful festivals and traditions of her native India, such as the intricate floor art of Rangoli. Chitra began her career in the mid-1990s with acclaimed solo exhibitions on Broadway in New York City, earning recognition in publications like Manhattan Arts Magazine. Since 1999, her works have been widely commissioned by businesses and collectors in the U.S. and Europe, alongside public art projects starting in 2004. An award-winning child artist, Chitra holds a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts from Stella Maris College, Chennai, and a Bachelor’s in Painting with honors from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where she also earned an MBA. A study-abroad program in Paris in 1992 profoundly shaped her artistic vision, inspired by the emotional depth of Abstract Expressionists and the serene beauty of Claude Monet’s Garden in Giverny. Her ongoing series includes works such as Joyful Musings, A Rapturous Acclamation, Symphony, and Melody of Seasons, characterized by vibrant colors and layered textures. These pieces blend fantasy, dreams, and music, reflecting a celebration of life, memory, and imagination.
