Arthur Berry (1925 - 1994) is the most famous 20th century artist from the Potteries. Known as the Lowry of the Potteries, he is a contemporary but is more like a Dubuffet Brital Beauty meets working class Stoke on Trent. A contemporary and friend of The Two Roberts, Leslie Duxbury, Derek Greaves, John Minton, Jack Smith, Adler Ankel he drank and hung out is in the war years and post in London's boozy Frotrovia and Soho regulars including Dylan Thomas, Francis Bacon and Freud. An important British artist coming out of the dark and into favour on the British Art scene of 21st century.
