Vernacular Art-space Laboratory – (VAL, Lagos) is a non-profit artist initiative, founded in 2015 in Lagos as an art project space where artists cohabit to exchange ideas and co-create works with uncommon flair. As a non-commercial art space, the collaboration pluri-disciplinary artistic expression is our main focus as a platform.
The physical space is presently under construction. To activate our nonspace projects, we decided to start a Community Art Festival in our community of residence and its environ.
ICAF Lagos, is a project conceived to challenge the notion of art in the white cube and bring it closer to the people who are unaware and might not be able to afford to see a standard exhibition, through the use of alternative and abandon spaces for site-specific installations and performances. This festival make use of the streets in Iwaya community and environs for alternative artistic interventions.
