C.Mprojects is pleased to present a solo exhibition of new works by UK artist Eugene Ankomah ; an exhibition of both large and small scale paintings, collages, video, sound, mixed media site specific installation and performance.

The title of the exhibition ‘Disobedient Voices’ is inspired by the lyrics of ‘Land of Confusion’ by the UK band Genesis, where we hear the chorus: Oh Superman where are you now When everything's gone wrong somehow ,The men of steel, the men of power, Are losing control by the hour. The show aims to resemble a film set of a fantastical ‘crime scene” based on the viewer’s experience of the deliberately “rough aesthetic’ artworks displayed. Ankomah states “I see the world as a giant crime scene, with many pockets of different and varying levels of crime everywhere”.

Eugene Ankomah’s diverse body of work stems from his fascination with the notions of Fear, Suspicion, Anxiety and Distraction within contemporary era. His works take their cue from popular stories, childhood, current news, with references to race, religion, art history, politics, terrorism, false heroes, social injustice, and symbolism.  His series of mixed media paintings and limited editions re-appropriate a diversity of imagery and text from popular culture and childhood Heroes. ‘3 Little Pigs, Superman, Spiderman, are subversive twisted to create a record of humorous yet disturbing scenes, which incrementally build up the artists’ personal archive.

A dynamic large scale site-specific installation entitled 'Love Don't Live Here Anymore' extended over the grounds of the gallery blending a diversity of materials processes and objects; Helium Balloon, Toy Soldier, Spray Paint, Medicine powder, emergency flashing light, barricade tape, sound by Chevron Saint, all create an environment of suspicion, incident and hinting of the unease, which leave an imprint on the visitors.

Eugene Ankomah was born in London and after growing up in Ghana he returned to UK in the age of 13. He completed an Art Foundation at Central St. Martins, and awarded a BA from University of Westminster. He has exhibited internationally in galleries in Athens, London, Washington DC, Hanover, Wittenberg and also his works featured at Buckingham Palace, Royal Festival Hall, and at the Screen nation Awards amongst others. His works has appeared on TV in US, Kenya, South Africa, on Sky TV, ITV, the BBC, MTV. Ankomah’s works can be found in collections of celebrities including Uri Geller, Colin Salmon, Michael Horovitz, Chiwetel Ejiofor.
