TOMA Project Space is a contemporary art space in the Royals Shopping Centre in Southend-on-Sea. The project space is an extension of the The Other MA (TOMA) which is a 12-month artist-run education model that believes in accessible art education for everyone. TOMA Project Space is comprised of; a gallery space exhibiting work from emerging artists, a small library, a workshop space, a large bookable space + a meeting space for TOMA participants.

All of our exhibitions are free to attend and are accompanied by events + workshops throughout the year. The space is open to the public Friday, Saturday + Sunday 12-6pm. Exhibitions are invigilated by volunteers who in exchange can bank their time to use our bookable space upstairs, please contact us for more info.

Founded in 2016 by Emma Edmondson TOMA was set up in partnership with Metal in Southend, working with them for an incubation period before becoming an independent not for profit. This space is supported by Arts Council England.

Our team: Emma Edmondson (founder + curator), Lolly Adams (curator), Shaun C Badham (technician).

Transport: From London take the C2C line from London Fenchurch St to Southend Central. It only takes one hour + trains are very regular. TOMA is in the Royals Shopping Centre at the bottom of the high street towards the sea.

Other Southend highlights: Focal Point Gallery, Adventure Island, arcades along the Golden Mile, fish + chips on Southend beach + the longest pleasure pier in the world!
