The award-winning Whitaker Gallery & Museum is set in beautiful park grounds in Rawtenstall, in the centre of the Rossendale Valley, Lancashire. It is a multi-purpose venue which celebrates the area’s varied and amazing heritage whilst providing a dynamic, challenging and diverse programme of events, exhibitions and educational activities, connecting cultures and communities past and present. It also houses a characterful and busy café restaurant, offering everything from a quick coffee to a three-course meal in stunning surroundings. The Whitaker was built in 1840 and rescued from closure in 2013, embarking on a journey of restoration and enhancement under the leadership of a newly formed ‘Whitaker Group’. It is run as a ‘not-for-profit’ community organisation, operated by a niche in-house team and an army of volunteers.
