Tasarım Bakkalı is an open art space located in the center of Yeldeğirmeni mahallesi, Kadıköy. The neighborhood which is in the Anatolian side of İstanbul, is home to a lot of artists studios for many years and is transforming to be the new cultural and social center. Being conscious of this transformation, Tasarım Bakkalı has been a pioneer in the arts and culture side of this change. While exhibiting the works of Turkish art scenes prominent artists, the opportunity was given to the talented young artists to use the same “open space”.

In two years Tasarım Bakkalı presented 18 exhibitions with 32 artists. In the first year of TAB gallery, the program was regulated so that two artists, paying regard to one being local, would share the same exhibition area and show their work side by side on a monthly basis. Some artists were unfamiliar with each other, thus bringing together different aspects of perception, production, application, practice and material. In the second year Tasarım Bakkalı started a series of shows called Architect Exhibitions, inspired from the 1919 “Exhibition for unknown architects” of Arbeitsrat für Kunst Berlin. Seeking for the production on a multidisciplinary basis.

Although its been two years Tab Gallery became to be one of the alternative and innovative art spaces in Istanbul, which is followed by printed and social media.

Tasarım Bakkalı is an artists run space founded by many people working with multiple disciplines such as visual artists, architects, musicians, software developers, psychologists and so on, sharing the same values of sustainable living and creating. We believe collective thinking and multidisciplinary working is essential for contemporary arts.
