W O O D P O P Studio presents 'P O P - S H O P’ – their first solo show, at London’s exuberant members club, Quo Vadis, Soho. Featuring a series of abstracts, landscapes and celebrity portraits, the exhibition marks an evolution to their signature marquetry artworks to also include the world’s first handcrafted marquetry surfboards.
Founded by Emma Wood in the Black Mountains of Wales, w o o d p o p studio has earned a reputation in both traditional craft and contemporary art circles for pairing the classic, rarefied art of marquetry with a bold context and fresh graphic style. Constantly challenging the limits of where and how marquetry can be applied, as a former music industry manager Wood has brought her rock and roll credentials to the world of furniture, drawing on a diverse range of interests to inspire her work – from her love of Mexico and music, to her fascination with geometry, as well as Pop artists Peter Blake and Roy Lichtenstein and the surreal art of Storm Thorgerson.
Situated in the iconic members club Quo Vadis, with its colourful past and a timeless allure, these beautiful pieces find a perfect synergy – uniting traditional craft with cool innovation.
