Störung Galerie was founded in early 2020 by the berlin based curator Robert Paul Gardner.

Störung Galerie came about as a direct response to the mounting challenges faced by artists and galleries alike to find, utilise and secure suitable spaces in which to operate.

Representing an expanding repertoire of emerging and mid career artists, primarily based in Berlin, Störung Galerie represents a forward thinking and innovative approach to how we experience art as we move and adapt to an ever evolving world.

In September 2020 we signed our very first lease on a small former shop space that sits directly on the border of former East and West Berlin, between Mitte and Kreuzberg, right in the middle of the still pulsing heart of Berlin. When we first started Störung, securing a permanent space was something we thought beyond our reach. Perseverance paid off. Dreams do come true.

However, this forced us to examine our original concept and how we could adapt that to our newly landed enterprise. Störung was supposed to be a reaction to the increasingly regulated city in which we live in, to keep some form of spontaneous spirit, for which this city is known for, alive.

The idea was to use only off-space locations, the more challenging the better. Each space tailored specifically to the work of each artist, but we soon found even those were off limits. Wrapped in bureaucracy and red tape, door after door was closed, forcing us to adapt. Surprisingly, it seemed more achievable to push on, and find in the end a permanent home for our artists to show their work. So by chance, some luck came our way, and Adalbertstraße 24 became our home.

In keeping with the original concept, the motivation is to put aside the idea of the white cube gallery space. To continue to provide the immersive, site specific experiences we desperately hunted down in the beginning. To achieve this, each artist is allocated two weeks before their exhibition to come and work in the gallery and create a site specific exhibition. To transform it into a one-off, in depth experience. To react to it, to destroy it, to rebuild it, and mould it in their vision. A truly immersive visual experience.

We’ll start in October 2020, with the first solo exhibition of multi disciplinary artist SELVA, who’s first show ‘REVELATION(s)’ promises to be the start of a wild ride…

new visions for a new decade.
