Space Debris is a multi-purpose art space founded by Seyhan Musaoglu working between two platforms:  New York and Istanbul. As a hub space for innovative dialogue with a collective soul, the aim is to gain recognition for interactive new media works and interdisciplinary subjects that challenge traditional boundaries. *

“Space Debris,” also known as orbital debris, describes the collection of defunct objects in orbit around Earth, which includes the remnants of spent rocket stages, old satellites, fragments from disintegration, erosion, collision… and stardust.  Kessler syndrome posits that this debris may create a new orbit, by functioning like a runaway chain reaction that will pulverise everything in its path, including functioning satellites. This new form of interactive creation is an analogy for the establishment of this art space in Karaköy.

Visitors to Space Debris are envisioned as stardust and are invited to inspire a new orbit; a new form of thinking, a new creative dialogue, a new art wave… from the experiences created for them via happenings in the gallery. The runaway chain reaction occurs when emotional debris (created by unstable social constructs) and physical debris (created by the constantly changing facade of our environment due to gentrification), cultivate positive energy by creative interaction. Space Debris is a place for all artists and art lovers to experience the constructs of fluxus happenings. We are not interested in only showing a pretty picture on a wall; we build all-encompassing experiences, visually and aurally, creating an ambiance that visitors can enter and interact with.
