The art historian Dr. Ralf-P. Seippel opened the gallery in Cologne's "Belgian quarter" in 1993. From that time until now, the focus has been on non-trendy, innovative international contemporary art.

The gallery has moved into more spacious rooms on three floors of a large building in the Zeughausstrasse. It is now in Cologne's main gallery district, within easy walking distance of the Cathedral, directly across from the famous Roman Tower (Römerturm).

Eight solo exhibitions of gallery artists are held each year. We use the ground floor (0) for temporary exhibitions. At the first floor (1) we exhibit a collection of work of our permanent artists. The second floor includes space for another temporary show (2) and also a "project room" (3) for young, unknown artists, and for experimental shows put together by outside curators.

The Seippel Gallery is active in supporting exhibitions of their artists in other spaces and has worked in co-operation with museums and art associations from the start. Whenever possible the gallery publishes catalogues, etc. to accompany exhibitions, be they in the gallery or in co-operation with the gallery.

The Seippel Gallery is specialized in painting, sculpture, photography, European, African (Southafrican) and Australian art.

The Seippel Gallery has participated in international art fairs such as the ArtCologne since 1996.
