The Friedrichshof Collection is a private initiative showing key works from the 1960s by Günter Brus, Otto Muehl, Hermann Nitsch, Rudolf Schwarzkogler, and Alfons Schilling. The collection began in the early 1980s in Otto Muehl’s Action Analytic Commune and remained largely intact after the commune was disbanded.

Today the Friedrichshof Collection, together with MUMOK Museum of Modern Art in Vienna, provides the opportunity to gain deep insight into the history of Vienna Actionism, and the two collections form the basis for research on the movement.

As well as presenting the collection permanently to the public, The Friedrichshof Collection also provides a space for exhibitions and conferences, with the focus on experimental and contemporary art production.

The Friedrichshof Commune Archive is a part of the Friedrichshof Collection and is presently being prepared for research purposes.

The exhibition space, designed by architect Adolf Krischanitz, is 60 km southeast of Vienna, at the site of the former experiment in communal living, which today is a park landscape with apartments, artists’ studios, social projects, and a hotel and restaurant.
