Peninsula

The Peninsula gallery is an artist-run space that devotes its attention to artistic practices as a platform for the development of collaborative projects. 

Opened experimentally in May 2014, it is located in the historic cultural center on Rua dos Andradas, the first street of the city, in Porto Alegre, Brazil.

Peninsula focuses on the promotion of contemporary art in its various languages, developments, practical and aesthetic becomings. Peninsula places high importance on its relationship with the surrounding environment, including the downtown community and beyond.

Emerging and established artists, curators, researchers, art historians and critics are invited to interact with each other through exhibitions, specific projects, workshops, open studios and residencies. With no entrance fee, we encourage the public to experience the space.  Many of our activities occurs in public spaces, such as in the charming and historic Brigadeiro Sampaio Square located right in front of the gallery.

As Peninsula is increasingly focused on artistic practice, in addition to the exhibition space the gallery includes a small collection of artwork, three active studios and two libraries available for public consultation. We consider all artists we work with to be collaborators whether they visit our space, join our residency program or leave  works for our collection as a contribution to our operation.
