Brindisi, the ancient and important Brentesion, probably has its origins to the Cretans, although a legend even links it to the penthouse hero Teseo. Through its long and fascinating history we rediscover it as a great Messapic center, followed by a Roman colony of enormous military and commercial importance, the main port of embarkation towards the East and naval station of the Roman war fleet in constant rivalry with the Greek city of Taranto . It was also directly linked to Rome through the famous Trajan and Appia Way: the majestic columns of spring marble at the end of the latter remain the only monumental memory of Roman age of Brindisi. Rich in historic houses, castles and palaces, the city offers the visitor a sensory journey and cultural heritage.

Among the late-Renaissance architecture palaces stands Palazzo Granafei-Nervegna, built in its original nucleus in 1565. The building has a Renaissance look with baroque elements, especially in stone balconies, and is divided into three orders by the frames on which aphorisms stand out in Latin. In its basement and ground floor it is possible to see the remains of an ancient Domus area with Roman baths. After several changes of use over the centuries today, this palace has become a beautiful location  for prestigious art exhibitions.
