Mwldan is a vibrant arts and entertainment complex situated in the centre of Cardigan, an old market town on the beautiful coast of west Wales. With three fully digital screens we are Wales' only truly Independent multiplex. We also offer a superb range of modern comfortable facilities suitable for hire by organisers of conferences, meetings, classes and performances, plus a bar.
A Not For Profit, Independent company and a registered charity, Theatr Mwldan is a highly successful community enterprise, a company owned and managed by the community that it serves. We welcome over 300,000 people a year through our doors. Every penny spent by customers at Mwldan gets ploughed straight back into the business, improving facilities, and generating employment and income for the local area. This helps to generate our annual turnover in excess of £1.2 million, some 75% of which is earned income, generated from just 25% of core public funding – an impressive return rate on investment.
Mwldan presents a year-round diverse and eclectic professional programme of national and international artistic activity across a wide range of artforms, including drama, music, dance, film, literature, opera, visual and applied arts. We also have one of best film programmes in Wales, offering over 3,000 screenings a year including both mainstream and specialist film releases, 3D screenings and live satellite broadcast from from all over the globe. Having the flexibility of three cinema screens means that we can offer a wider selection of films and special screenings.
With a dedication to innovation, vision and excellence, Mwldan has been described by The Arts Council of Wales as ‘exemplary’ and a ‘model of best practice and excellence’ for its touring and production work. Specialising in touring production and logistics, marketing, financial and administrative tour management, Mwldan has provided many artists with the opportunity to extensively tour the fantastic network of venues, theatres and arts centres available within Wales. Since 2006 Mwldan has co-produced more than 65 touring projects, specialising in world music, traditional music and drama, making us one of Wales’ most prolific producing venues. We have brought many outstanding international acts and artists from over the world to tour Wales and produced projects within Wales that are available for touring worldwide.
Mwldan has an important role in contributing to the local economic, social and cultural regeneration of Cardigan and the surrounding area. Mwldan is a not-for-profit organisation that combines economic activity with a social and ethical purpose. At Mwldan’s heart is the belief that the arts can deliver life-changing and life-enhancing experiences that have the power to change perceptions and increase tolerance, breaking down cultural divides and allowing greater understanding – as relevant for the community we live in as it is for the planet we live on. This vision is at the core of Mwldan and all its activities.
