Newlyn Art Gallery exists because of a long history of contemporary art making in the far west of Cornwall and has celebrated contemporary art and supported the artists that produce it for more than 120 years.

Newlyn Art Gallery re-launched in July 2007 after a substantial expansion and refurbishment of its existing home in Newlyn and the development of a major new art space in Penzance, The Exchange, which has enabled the organisation to take on larger, more ambitious projects across its two sites. Together the galleries continue to present contemporary work in all media by regional, national and international artists, with a programme of events, activities and education.

The galleries’ international reputation allows it to bring some of the best art being produced around the globe to Cornwall. Among the artists who have received solo exhibitions are Robyn Denny, Mona Hatoum, Christine Borland, Lawrence Weiner, John Armleder, and many others. The gallery has also hosted solo exhibitions of some of the region’s foremost practitioners such as Roger Hilton, Breon O’Casey, Sandra Blow and Michael Porter.

The Gallery shop sells ceramics, jewellery, cards and art books, and the Studio Cafe serves tea, coffee and cakes during the summer. In the winter the space is used to display ceramics and crafts. We recently completed a project to enhance the outdoor spaces including secluded gardens with pebble seating. The Picture Room is an additional gallery space presenting selling exhibitions by leading regional artists.

As a dog-friendly venue, well-behaved dogs on leads are welcome.
