The National Taichung Theater (NTT) is the first national-level performing arts venue in central Taiwan. Under the umbrella of the National Performing Arts Center (NPAC), joined by two sister venues—the National Theater & Concert Hall (NTCH) in Taipei and the National Kaohsiung Center for the Arts (Weiwuying) in Kaohsiung— and an affiliated performance group, the National Symphony Orchestra (NSO). We are dedicated to serving Taiwan's third biggest city, Taichung, which has a population of over 2.6 million. Guided by our conviction in the power of live performances, we will create a thriving creative space where artistic visions are nurtured and the appreciation of art becomes a way of life.
Designed by Pritzker Prize winner Toyo Ito, this striking piece of architecture stretches over an open space of 5.7 hectares, right in the heart of our bustling city. Equipped with cutting edge technology, it seats 2,007 in its Grand Theater, 800 in the Playhouse, and 200 in the Black Box. The architecture, which is supported solely by curved walls and no pillars, exemplifies our endeavor: to engage and connect, to embrace the flow of ideas, and be unafraid to defy the norm. The structure, which also features a scenic roof garden, along with salon spaces, gift shops, cafés and restaurants, brings about a cohesive whole that immerses and inspires.
NTT is currently under the direction of the Executive and Artistic Director, Vitoria WANG whom leads an experienced and capable artistic team that is determined to deliver programs of the highest quality and unyielding diversity. Plans are in place to host an annual arts festival. With our commitment to connect on a local, national, and global scale, we will actively participate in international collaborations while setting up programs to invest in local talents. As the latest addition to the family of world theater, we hope to infuse a breath of fresh air in all that we do. Join us as we eagerly await the beginning of a brand new chapter.
