The Museum of the Home in Hoxton, East London has announced that it will reopen to the public on Saturday 12th June following an £18.1 million capital redevelopment project. With a mission to discover, reveal and rethink what home means, the reimagined Museum, designed by Wright & Wright Architects, opens up the 300-year old buildings and gardens, and reveals 80% more exhibition space for the collections and creative collaborations.

Through a dynamic programme of exhibitions, artist commissions, performances, discussions, collaborations, festivals and events, the Museum will address topical issues such as homelessness, immigration, mental health and the environment, while responding to local, national and global narratives. Visitors will be able to explore the subject of home from diverse viewpoints and creative responses, both historical and contemporary.

The renovation of the original Grade-1 listed, 18th-century almshouses and the development of new spaces will double the capacity for exhibitions, events and collections, which span 400 years. The brand new Home Galleries will explore universal themes, social issues and personal stories related to the theme of home and asking visitors to consider ‘What does home mean to you?’. In addition, the refreshed Rooms & Gardens Through Time will explore historic and contemporary ways of living from 1600 to the present day, and will include a new Victorian period room, a 1976 Front Room curated by Michael McMillan, and a Room of Now curated by different leading minds, creatives and community groups.

Tickets can be booked via museumofthehome.org.uk. Entry is free but must be booked in advance. @museumofthehome #museumofthehome
