MAN is named after the artist Anna Nordlander (1843-1879) who was born in Skelleftea and was one of the first women to study at the Royal Academy in Stockholm. She began her studies in 1866 and her works from that time show that she took inspiration from the contemporary art criticism which called for more Nordic motifs and the düsseldorfska school with an idealized realism.Besides landscapes she fetched his designs from Nordic history and mythology.
