With the MMK annex, a long-cherished wish for more space in which to showcase the museum collection more comprehensively is finally coming true.

The real-estate developers of the TaunusTurm place the space at the museum’s disposal at no charge for rent or utilities for a term of fifteen years. The operating costs will be covered by the founding members of the MMK 2 and further private patrons. Thus, the MMK and the City of Frankfurt will not have to cover any additional costs. With this the MMK 2 is an innovative and economically sustainable model for the museum’s expansion that makes use of existing space and the joint efforts of strong and dedicated partners to bring about something entirely new.

The TaunusTurm is conveniently located in the heart of Frankfurt's financial district and looks on to the newly configured park Taunusanlage. The MMK 2 in the TaunusTurm is accessible through its own entrance lobby that can be reached from the park. On about 2,000 sqm the space spreads across the generous exhibition area on the second floor as well as a museum shop and café on the ground floor. An adaptable exhibition space was designed for the MMK 2, which fulfills different spatial concepts and requirements.

The MMK 2 has been made possible by the TaunusTurm, a joint venture of Tishman Speyer and the Commerz Real AG. The founding partners are Stefan Quandt, the Ernst Max von Grunelius-Stiftung, the Helaba Landesbank Hessen-Thüringen and the DekaBank Deutsche Girozentrale. Further sponsors are the MMK Stiftung, the Freunde des MMK and the New Contemporaries.
