L‘espace de l‘espèce - a space run by Kerstin Godschalk, curator, who strives to resist the classical attributions of the art market by presenting artworks of the aspiring artists working at Kunstfabrik HB55. L‘espace de l‘espèce opens up the former industrial plant and is supporting the endeavour of developing a place where art is created and an institution arises which provides evolving international artists with a long term studio and bonds collaborations and networks with the art scene.

What lies behind L‘espace de l‘espèce?

L‘espace de l‘espèce
(French for a space of humanity)
Freely adapted from Henri Lefebvre, „La production de l‘espace“ and driven by the exhibited artworks L‘espace de l‘espèce is a space for and about social interaction.

The creative potential
A sociologic approach lays the ground of the curated exhibitions. The distance between the artworks, artists and the public may disappear and a dialogue may enhance the creative potential as an important component in the examination of reality of life. Society itself is a work of art: is creation and nonetheless certain. Following Henri Lefebvre we bring the exhibition and the social space continuously into being through human interaction and motion.

In motion
The exhibition space opens up to constantly break the distances and rigid structures such as viewing habits providing an open space which releases communications between the artworks and the visitor. The exhibitions become stages for performances, thus nourishing associations and the diversification of perspectives, leading a.o. to reconsiderations on current social issues.
