Huerta de los Frailes
What is la Huerta de los Frailes?
Huerta de los Frailes is a ecologic place in the Barranco del Monasterio valley, in the periphery of the Natural Park of Sierra Mágina in the village of Los Cárcheles, province of Jaén (Andalussia- Spain), where art, nature and history are linked.
Huerta de los Frailes is a commited space, ecologically farmed since 2003, flourishing a botanic garden and, now, offered to create a centre for open air sculpture.
Huerta de los Frailes belong to the place of El Convento de Cazalla, occupied for centuries by religious orders, first Agustinians and from 15th century until the 19th century confiscation, by the order of Basil of Caesarea.
Project “Abierto por Arte”
The project “Abierto por Arte” inteds to attract young artist from all over the world to participate in creative meetings to work, exchange, share, debate and learn to get along in Carchelejo and in La Huerta de los Frailes, while their works collaborate to create permanent art space.
It started as a meeting for sculptors, but this year it has been expanded to painters as well. The aim is to incorporate progressively different artistic disciplines as well as different moments through the year.
The process of the realization of the works selected could be accompanied of an exhibition of the projects in Carchelejo, as well as debates, seminars and lecturers from experts and artists of a length career which will take place to complement the activity and open to the public.
