Grieder Contemporary was established in 2006 with a focus on internationally acknowledged aspects of the Berlin and Swiss art scene and on up-and-coming talents from a new generation of artists. The gallery was first located in a modernistic villa by architect Theodor Laubi in Küsnacht/Zurich. The spatial hybridity of the architecture lent the gallery a particular salon aesthetics – instead of a “White Cube” – which allowed unconventional modes of presentation for shows with artists such as Monica Bonvicini, Sylvie Fleury, Gregor Hildebrandt, Christian Jankowski, Thomas Kiesewetter and Richard Woods.

From 2009 to 2012, the gallery also ran the project space “Grieder Contemporary Projects” in Berlin-Charlottenburg (Mommsenstrasse 56), presenting exciting solo and group shows with Lori Hersberger, Dieter Meier, Ross Chisholm and others. After five successful years in its venue in Küsnacht, Grieder Contemporary relocated to a new space in Zurich's Seefeld close to the lake until the end of 2013.
In November 2013, the gallery opened its new premises in the Löwenbräu art complex, the heart of Zurich's art scene. The gallery's two showrooms offer extraordinary possibilities for presenting works as could be seen in Grieder Contemporary's most recent exhibitions e.g. with Vito Acconci, Ross Chisholm, Nic Hess, Melli Ink, Alicja Kwade, Kesang Lamdark, Jonas Lipps, Dieter Meier, Michael Sailstorfer, Kerim Seiler and Jorinde Voigt.
