What is Gallery Arcturus? Consider it a gem hiding in plain sight on Gerrard Street East in downtown Toronto, half-way between Yonge Street and the conservatories of Allan Gardens. Originally comprised of two townhouses built in the 1850s, the gallery building faces Toronto Metropolitan [formerly Ryerson] University near neighbourhoods known as the Church-Wellesley Village and the Garden District.

Up to eight exhibit spaces may be open at a given time, connected by stairs. A library/indoor garden and a dedicated gallery for collage art are on the second floor. A working studio is usually open for visits in the lower level.

As gallery curator, artist Deborah Harris is responsible for all installations. She also leads explorations into chosen themes with invited artists; the visual results of which are recorded in “Little Books”, printed on site and available at the gallery’s reception area.

Admission is free and visitors are welcome from Tuesday to Saturday from noon to 5:30. CLOSED SUNDAY AUGUST 17 THROUGH MONDAY SEPTEMBER 1

Supported by The Foundation for the Study of Objective Art, a registered charitable organization.
