Galleri Magnus Karlsson was founded in 1990. The first 7 years the gallery was located in Västerås, a city 100 km west of Stockholm. It gained a reputation as one of the most interesting contemporary art galleries in Sweden. In August 1997 the gallery moved to Stockholm.

The focus of the gallery is to show the work of emerging artists from Sweden. The gallery has done international art fair such as Liste, Basel (1999, 2000 and 2001), Art Forum Berlin (2002) Frieze Art Fair, London (2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011 & 2012), The Armory Show, New York (2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011 & 2012), ABC, Berlin (2013 & 2014) and Frieze Art Fair, New York (2014) to present those artists also internationally. The gallery also co-produces exhibitions and projects with museums and galleries.

The gallery is located on the ground floor of The Royal Swedish Academy of Fine Arts, Fredsgatan 12, Stockholm. In the summer of 2011 Hellvi Kännungs, a project room on the island of Gotland, opened for the public. It will also be a place for artists to meet and work.
