The Fondation Custodia is home to a remarkable ensemble of Old Master drawings, prints, paintings, books and artists’ letters from the Frits Lugt Collection. Due to the delicate nature of the fragile works on paper, the collection, which is housed in the 18th-century Hôtel Turgot in the elegant 7th arrondissement, is not a museum but a study collection, which can be viewed and examined by appointment. The collection’s main body is made up of 7,000 Old Master drawings and 30,000 prints from the 15th to the mid-19th centuries. There are also around 220 Old Master paintings and 40,000 artists’ letters including examples from Dürer, Rembrandt, Michelangelo and Matisse. The Fondation Custodia also holds regular exhibitions which are open to the public.
