In October 2012, the  A Stichting Foundation opens its doors south of Brussels, on the site of the former Bata factories. Created on the initiative of Astrid Ullens de Schooten, recognized as a public utility, its purpose is to support the creation, knowledge and preservation of the photographic image.

Nothing exists that does not seem to be attested by the image. Yet the idea of recording reality by photography is not self-evident. What about our ability to look, to discern when the images that surround us in their superabundance and their virtual immediacy, become complex with force and speed? The project of the Foundation is to explore the issues and contradictions of the document image in order to question this world at all visible . Three temporary exhibitions are organized each year, accompanied by reading and writing workshops for young people and children. Students and students are invited to come and talk with the artists during the meetings, Premières Découvertes .

The Foundation is part of an area of the city formerly devoted to industry that has gradually turned into a housing district with many places devoted to artistic creation. She enrolled with the desire, as a cultural actor, to participate in the life of this neighborhood. A true platform dedicated to the photographic image, the A Stichting Foundation also proposes to become a partner of exhibition and publishing projects, organized in collaboration with Belgian and foreign cultural institutions.
